Appledore Pilot Gig Club

Appledore Pilot Gig Club, Devon

Established: 2003

Location: North Devon

Gigs: Whitford, Verbena,
GRP Gigs: Siren and Margaret James.

About:   We have two racing gigs, Verbena and Whitford, along with two plastic training gigs, Siren and Margaret James. We also have a giglet, Blanche, which we keep at Tamar Lakes for the juniors to train in.  We race at the opening of two rivers, the Taw and the Torridge. Our waters are well known for their high tides and Atlantic swells which can mean we row on a gentle river or a raging tide! The Club is an active part of the community and we rely heavily on their support for our ongoing growth and improvement. As well as our yearly regatta, we also hold three long races, The History Race, The Two Bridges and The Bar-Buoy Race. None of these are for the faint-hearted!  In 2014 we hosted the first inaugural Supervets Championship Sprints.  Due to the success of this event we are hosting a weekend event, in April, with 24 West Country Clubs taking part.
