Clubs travelled from around the South West and South East to attend Appledore’s Super Vets Championships this weekend, for a fun-filled weekend of racing in a bid to take home a trophy.
Rowers from 18 clubs took part in the event, competing over a triangular course. Crews battled against the tide and the gusting wind, as well as negotiating two buoy turns before finishing next to the iconic Appledore harbour.

Paying Tribute to Len White
In attendance watching over the racing was Len White’s daughter, Julie, who shared with us how much it would have meant to her father to see so many people in attendance at the event.
Len White was a former CPGA representative and was the President of Appledore Pilot Gig Club before passing away in 2017.
Back on shore
On dry land, the pub, The Seagate, kindly closed off their car park to allow rowers full use of the space during the day.
Appledore Gig Rowing Club also kept spirits high once racing finished, organising entertainment into the evening complete with sea shanty singing in the gig shed.
Congratulations to all who competed on a fantastic weekend of racing!
