Insurance for Cornish Pilot Gigs

The World Pilot Gig Championships are the biggest event of the year. Racing takes place on the waters off St. Mary’s, Isles of Scilly, and the spectacle attracts thousands of rowers and supporters to the islands for a weekend of intense rowing and associated revelry!

GigRower will keep you informed on all you need to know in the months leading up to each year’s Championships which are always held over the first Bank Holiday weekend in May. So bookmark this page and check back regularly.

The 2017 event is set to be bigger than ever – with nearly 150 gigs likely to be on the startline of the main St. Agnes races on Saturday May 2nd.

3 ladies (possibly 4) looking for accommodation on St Marys for gig rowing weekend. Looking to arrive Thursday, home on Monday. Any suggestions much appreciated. Would prefer self catering house/apartment or b and b as opposed to camping (although glamping is fine)!

    Many thanks,

I am a Supervet rower with Clevedon Gig Club, and I am seeking a spare seat in a men’s crew on Sat and Sun. I have competed in four previous champs and rowed in the Clubs C crew.

Porthgain Ladies have lost a rower! We are looking for a stroke side lady for the Ella Rose crew. We finished in group K last year, but aspire to be well above that this time. It is this crew’s third Scilly, with one or two newer members, so we are friendly, fit and would like and welcome a lady to compete in all the races.

Please reply or call Simon on 07818612842, thanks

Looking for a seat in the Men’s Supervets Scillies on Friday – either side. Staying on St Agnes as from Wednesday. Contact George on 07816765934 if you can help.

Hi, I was wondering if a Dutch Lady I briefly met at Schipol Airport flying to Birmingham on the 26th April, made it successfully and safely to the gig racing. The flight was cancelled, and she along with everyone else, was struggling to find alternative flights to arrive in Penzance on time for her departure on the Scillonian ? No other reason other than just making sure she arrived safely, and it would be interesting to know where she came in the race ?
