The 2026 Hunkin Regatta took place on Saturday 7th February on the River Fowey, celebrating the enduring legacy of father and son Maurice and Louis Hunkin. Known for its welcoming atmosphere, the event provides an opportunity for the gig rowing community to come together and admire the remarkable craftsmanship of these traditional boats.
This year, two heats were held to accommodate all the participating gigs, showcasing an incredible legacy of skill, design, and community spirit. Firefly of Avon Corinthians received the Best Kept Gig trophy from Maurice Hunkin. Firefly was previously known as Will to Win of Torridge.
More than just a race, the Hunkin Regatta is a celebration of the Hunkin family’s contribution to the sport and of the community that continues to cherish and maintain these remarkable vessels.
