Swanage Regatta – Jurassic League, Round 2

Well, what a weekend of racing we had in Swanage over the 7th and 8th June!

After all the excitement of hosting the Super Vets Championships on the Saturday, even more willing volunteers turned out to help on the Sunday, with the second race of the 2025 Jurassic League season which saw all local Jurassic League clubs racing and several non-Jurassic League clubs remaining in the town to join in.

13 clubs were in attendance racing over the same long, three-turn kite course as the previous day’s championships.

Swanage Bay lends itself well to a long course with some of the best elevated spectator viewing around. The 2.5k course started with a 1.2k first leg, which means a fast and sustained start is crucial to get to the first buoy turn unencumbered. That, and perhaps the collective energy of the weekend’s crews meant Swanage Sea Rowing Club had a successful showing across multiple categories, a testament to the club’s work in growing the appeal of gig rowing across all categories from Juniors to Super Vets.

The weather held, helping Swanage to victories in 7 of the 11 races however Osprey of Poole and Tristan of Weymouth were in contention in every race pushing all the way to the finish. Particular mention must be made of the Under 16’s category, where 8 participating crews showed that the future of gig racing is looking very sunny.
