River Teign Rowing Club (RTRC) hosted a successful South Devon Winter League fixture on Saturday, January 25th, during a calm spell between Storms Eowyn and Herminia. Teams from Teign, Dart, Paignton, Brixham, Yealm, and Salcombe participated in the event, which had been rescheduled due to previous weather cancellations.

The races were held on a straight 1600m course on the river, with a row to the start serving as a warm-up on the chilly day. Due to tidal constraints, the categories included Juniors, Opens and Women’s A, B, and C, Mixed Vets, Mixed Super Vets, and Mixed Masters. Hearn Field offered spectators a great vantage point to view the close finishes.
Dart emerged as the overall winners, followed by Salcombe in second place. RTRC fielded two boats in most categories to provide racing experience to a wide range of rowers, with the Mixed Masters achieving the sole River Teign victory.
RTRC members worked together to ensure safe racing, provide excellent refreshments, organize a tombola, and extend a warm welcome to all visitors. The club now looks forward to participating in the upcoming South Devon Winter League events hosted by Dart and Paignton and hopes for equally favourable weather conditions.
