A Record Breaking Year For The Stream Team

Thanks to Doom Bar and Sharps Brewery, the GigRower Stream Team were out in full force at this year’s World Pilot Gig Championships.  

Our volunteers helped us achieve several significant milestones. We proudly watermarked and uploaded over 8,000 photos, capturing the essence and energy of every race from the water and the shore. 

With the addition of the Master’s category, we covered more races than ever before, also streaming commentary team insights before and after the racing. Thanks to their efforts, we saw the highest number of views ever on our live streaming, making the racing more accessible to those at home allowing more people than ever to experience the magic of WPGC.

This scale of operation was facilitated by a significant team of 16 volunteers  across the weekend. We were thrilled to welcome 5 new volunteers to the Stream Team, who brought lots of skill and enthusiasm to the group. This year, for the first time, we had two teams: one operating from shore and one from the water. The addition of the shore-based team allowed us to cover a diverse range of content, from team photos to interviews and videography.

Commentator, Nicola Murdoch said, “I feel so fortunate to have had the best seat in the house for some incredibly tight and exciting racing. Sharing the moment the Looe men were declared winners, after so much waiting and suspense, was a true delight. It’s incredible to think that our simple setup helps people from around the world join in – we love seeing the supportive Facebook comments from our amazing community. Sharing our knowledge and love for rowing with such a passionate audience is truly rewarding.””.

2024 marked our most ambitious yet, with the addition of WPGC’s exciting new event space; The Park. The screen brought the live stream to a central hub, creating an electric fan zone. As well as showing the live stream, our volunteers worked hard to produce the other moving and static content for the screen, showcasing material from projects such as the Pulling Together The Past and Wave of Events, as well as racing footage from previous years.

To all our volunteers, both new and seasoned, we are so grateful. Thanks to their hard work, creativity, and dedication we have reached some incredible milestones.
