The weekend 1st and 2nd July proved to be a busy weekend on the gig rowing calendar as Devoran and Charlestown held their annual regattas.
Saturday was Charlestown’s regatta and was host to 12 clubs for the event. The day brought hot conditions making the race to the first mark quite a challenge with the high wind and tide.
Nonetheless all clubs had a fantastic day of racing with Fowey taking 1st position in the Ladies A race, Ladies B race, Under 14, Under 16 junior races. Fowey Men’s A finished 3rd and their Men’s B crew finished in 5th place.
Mounts Bay gig club finished 2nd overall with Charlestown placing 3rd.

On Sunday, it was Devoran Gig Club’s turn to hold their annual regatta and was host to 11 local gig clubs with Falmouth Ladies A placing 1st in their race, Ladies B 2nd. Falmouth Men’s B also came 1st place with their Men’s A crew coming in 2nd place.
Overall the club taking 1st place was won by Hayle with Penryn finishing 2nd overall and Roseland Gig Club finishing in 3rd place.
The event was also fancy dress with crews all getting dressed up for the occasion with some fantastic costumes. A great day was had by all and thank you to Devoran Gig Club for organising such a wonderful event.
