The Purpose of a trustee for the CPGA CIO

Responsibilities
• Ensure the activities and purpose is for public benefit
• Comply with its own constitution and the law
• Act in the CPGA’s best interest and with reasonable care and skill
• Manage resources responsibly
• Ensure the CPGA is accountable

In order to achieve this, the requirement of the role is
• Attend quarterly Trustee meetings, be adequately prepared to contribute, be accountable, open, objective, honest and willing to lead.
• Be an ambassador and promote the CPGA using your skills, knowledge and contacts and devote time and effort
• Approve, monitor and evaluate the CPGA financial activities
• Maintain, update, approve, monitor and evaluate the CPGA performance against its strategy, plus other legal responsibilities
• Lead any relevant working groups or projects as required
• Ensure there is a good, positive working environment for employees and volunteers (with a strong commitment to equality, inclusion and diversity).

The law places certain restrictions on becoming a charity trustee. For example, you cannot be under the age of 18, previously been removed from trusteeship of a charity by a Court or the Charity Commission, disqualified under the Company Director’s Disqualification Act 1986, or been convicted of an offence involving deception or dishonesty (unless the conviction is spent). The Trustee role is voluntary and so it is not a paid position, however reasonable expenses for travel and subsistence can be reimbursed.

The CPGA are looking for new trustees who have experience in these area
• Legal and HR expertise
• Commercial experience
• Working within a community
• Is active in or has an active interest is the sport of Cornish Pilot Gig rowing
