Have a look at RMA gig clubs new oars

The RMA Gig Club received their first set of brand new oars painted with Royal Marines Corp colours on the blades. James Poulson personal delivered the oars to the Clubs home which we share with Cattewater Gig Club at the Mount Batten Watersports Centre, Plymstock.

The oars have been custom made and manufactured by James of East Cornwall Oars, Liskeard. The oars were funded jointly by a Club Crowdfunder campaign with Plymouth City Change Fund, Plymouth City Council who matched the £1,260 raised by Club members and some generous donations.

The new oars will help to raise the profile of the club by clearly showing the ties to the Royal Marines. The hope is that this will encourage more serving military & veterans from all the services and their families to take up Gig rowing. Gig rowing is hugely beneficial to the wellbeing of the local community, predominantly our disabled veterans.

“The blades, due to the significance of the Corp Colours and the history they represent, has made them the most complicated paint job I’ve ever done to a set of oars. Getting the correct width proportions of the different colours ended up having to be lined in by eye as it was near impossible to mask off the lines on the inside face of the blades due to the complex concave curves of these hand sculptured beauties”.
