The tail of Hurricane Lorenzo visited Friday night leaving seaweed all over the Prom, but as 5 local crews arrived for Clevedon’s 1st home Regatta the sea was calm and conditions perfect for a bit of local racing.
Crews from Bristol, Portishead, Porlock and Burnham raced from the beach in 4 Mens and Ladies A&B races followed by 3 mixed races for Vets, Supers and Masters, as well as a Mixed Novices Race for newbies to the sport.
The racing was certainly fierce on the water with Bristol taking the overall honours with wins in the Ladies A & B, Mens B and the Mixed Master, with Clevedon taking the Mens A trophy, and Portishead winning the Mixed Vets, Mixed Supers and Novice Races.
The plan was to keep things local with minimal use of plastic, which was certainly achieved thanks to good old fashioned mugs for tea and coffee and free refills of water available throughout the day. Even the trophies were made from pieces of driftwood collected from the Beach in keeping with this local theme.
