Clevedon Pilot Gig Club have their first inaugural regatta on Saturday with the weather Gods playing ball and have allowing Clevedon to push ahead this with some racing this weekend.
As this is Clevedon’s first regatta, it will be a small affair to so what does and doesn’t work. Four gigs will be racing from Clevedon beach in 8 Races throughout the day. Mens & Ladies As & Bs, then Mixed Vets, Mixed Supers, Mixed Masters and a Novices Race.
Local clubs Bristol and Portishead will be joining them along with Burnham and Porlock sharing a boat to form a fourth crew.
Fingers crossed for a successful regatta which may see it increased to 6 – 8 Gigs in the future, if proved successful, with changeovers taking place from both the slipway and the beach, itself 2 hours either side of high tide.
