More gig rowing heritage will be on display in the Fisherman’s Mission, next to the RNLI shop, in Newquay Harbour this weekend. The ‘Pulling Together The Past’ team are presenting material relating to the history of Newquay Rowing Club and the County Championships. The exhibition is titled ‘Newquay – A Rowing Revival’.
Doors will be open from 10am – 4pm on Saturday and Sunday.
Project Manager, Claire Tripp said, ‘Gig rowing has a rich heritage and Newquay Rowing Club has played a really important role in preserving the old gigs, by holding the Championships and shaping the sport as it is today.’
The project is still collecting material so any photographs or programmes relating to the County Championships are welcome. Bring them along to the team for scanning on the day so that they can be added to the new gig rowing archive.
