2019 see’s the largest Newquay County Championships yet, there are 120 ladies crews and 99 men’s crews entered for the championships which is fantastic for the sport.
With this number of crews, the format is being changed to accommodate such numbers.
Saturday
The Saturday will not be timed. There will be the normal six (6) gigs per race, the first three (3) will qualify for the second round.
The second round (60 crews) will see the first (3) from each race qualify for the quarter finals.
Sunday
The Sunday will see the races timed. There will be five (5) quarter finals, two (2) semi finals and the final (one lap of the Newquay course for Ladies’ – two for Men).
As you can appreciate the logistics with so many crews is being monitored and it’s hoped that this change will facilitate more crews rowing in round 2 and the quarters.
It is therefore imperative that changeovers are quick. Also, with gig selection, please think seriously about the gigs that you have loaned. Would you be happy rowing them at a championship event? For all there needs to be respect of the gigs both on and off the water.
For any questions on the above, please direct these through your club secretary.
