Earlier this year we wrote an article about a charity row in the Mediterranean for the Noman Is An Island Charity and we wanted to give you an update on the row.
There were two Cornish pilot gig rowers completing this row which were Neil Wittridge (Penryn) & Roger Brine (Lyme Regis).
Early last week the team completed this row, the row did change slightly due to adverse weather and the team were not able to row from Ibiza to Barcelona which was their intended trip so instead rowed from Ibiza to Palma in Mallorca which is a distance of approximately 75 miles.
This is some information about the row from Team Endurance:
Given that the conditions were not perfect – quite a strong wind & a fairly substantial messy swell – Team Endurance (that was us) powered off the start line at 10am Monday 29 July, took the early lead & were never caught, crossing the finishing line at 2.58am Tuesday 30 July, a time of 16 hours 58 minutes & almost 2 hours clear of the 2nd boat home. Any initial disappointment at not being to complete the intended row was forgotten in what was a truly exhilarating experience. It was also a victory for the old guys as we were the oldest crew in the race (240 years between 5 of us).
We would like to thank our team mates (Marty & Steve from New Zealand & Marcel from Holland) who it was a pleasure & privilege to row with.
