Raffle to win Gigass equipment to raise money for Cancer Research UK

Karen Waterworth was diagnosed with breast cancer on the 19th June 2018, this was just after she competed in the 2018 World Gig Championships.

Unfortunately, this year Karen could not compete due to her treatment which was devastating for her.

Karen came up with a very positive idea based around her diagnoses and this is to raise money for Cancer Research UK and gave herself one year to raise £500. This target was exceeded quite quickly so she decided to extend the time.

Karen has already had one raffle which was to win vouchers worth £125 from IOS 49⁰ (which was donated by them) and from this raffle there was £370 raised.

Karen is now having another raffle thanks to Gigass, there are currently two raffles and two vouchers which Gigass has donated. The two vouchers are for a personalised cushion or personalised foot straps. These are both extremely useful for rowing.

The end of this fundraising will now be in September due to having an auction raffle and Johnny Cowling providing entertainment.

Not only has Karen been raising money but she has also been spreading the word about checking yourself.

This is not the first time Karen has had experience around Cancer, unfortunately she has also lost her husband to Prostate Cancer at the age of 52 in November 2010. Karen would also like to raise awareness based around the fact that men don’t get screened but she would like this to change.

Please see her facebook page which is named ‘A Year in the Life of a Rower with Cancer’

It is good to see Karen has recently got back to rowing for Cotehele Gig Club after missing rowing so much.

We all wish you luck!

See below for the rules around the current raffle.

Gigass has donated two very generous vouchers one for a personalised gig cushion and the other for personalised foot straps and I have now set up an online raffle. All money raised goes directly to Cancer Research UK. To purchase an online raffle ticket(s) please follow the instructions below.

  • DON’T tick the gift aid box as this can’t be added as it’s not just a donation, as you could get something back (if you win)
  • When you donate please don’t tick the anonymous box, if I don’t know who you are I can’t allocate tickets to you. If you do wish to remain anonymous could you please either private message me or email ayearinthelife18@gmail.com or send me a message on my public Facebook page. I can then forward your e-tickets, which do not need to be printed off
  • How I try to identify people is by searching for them on Facebook so please make it easy for me
  • Once I have identified the correct person I will send their e-ticked by private message and add their details and ticket number(s) onto my spreadsheet.
