Following a very successful regional meeting hosted at Weymouth, the nine gig clubs forming the Jurassic League made some positive steps forward.
A pre-season evenings workshop to train each club’s League Race Umpires will be held at Weymouth on Tuesday 16th April hosted by Heddon Johnson and Peter Fisher representing the CPGA.
The number of league clubs hosting regattas this coming season will increase from seven to eight, with the welcomed addition of Poole who will be holding their first CPGA Regatta.
Other additions resulting from the meeting will be the introduction of Ladies and Men’s Supervets races. These two extra categories will be included at the discretion of each host club where time and tide permit and will also be run as a separate league. Bridport Gig Club will record the results for these new categories which will also carry trophies and medals to the top 3 crews both Ladies and Men’s.
Langstone will continue to record and publish the results for each league regatta.
The preliminary dates for the seasons League Regattas are as follows;
Saturday 25th May Weymouth
Saturday 1st June Swanage
Sunday 9th June Poole
Saturday 15th June Langstone
Saturday 29th June Exmouth
Saturday 13th July Sidmouth
Saturday 20th July Bridport
Saturday 10th August Lyme Regis
Swanage will be trialling a new points scoring system for Junior Crews at each league regatta. It is designed to encourage and reward the performance of lower age group and mixed crew junior rowers who will be presented with medals at each league regatta.
Honiton and Ringwood based AEP Ltd have confirmed their ongoing sponsorship of the Jurassic League in providing all trophies and medals for the third year running.
