WPGC Rule Change – Random Testing to be brought in for 2019 UPDATE – Read the bottom line!

In partnership with the UK anti doping agency in sport, testing for doping & alcohol consumption will be brought inline similar to other sports due to the growth of gig rowing and the increasing competitiveness.

What will no doubt be a welcome addition to the sport to help make racing fair, the testing will be based on the Green in St Mary’s with random rowers selected throughout the weekend with any positive results leading to potential disqualification for their crew.

We do understand the rule change has come in quite quickly, but due to some anonymous tip offs to the UKAD over some crew’s eligibility this year; this has been brought in sooner to hopefully tackle any potential doping.

Breathalyzers will also be introduced, and anyone deemed to be ‘over’ the UK drink drive limit will also be banned from racing on that given race day. This is the interest of safety to other rowers and crews. If a cox is found to be over the limit, they will be banned for the weekend of racing, so please take care!

Any questions please send to antidoping@gigrower.co.uk and we will get back to you when we can.
