The third series of the North Coast Gig League is finally getting kicked off at Appledore tomorrow. Having lost the first meeting of the series to adverse weather conditions in November, hopes are high that the forecast westerly gales will hold off long enough to fit some highly anticipated racing in.
Tide times have dictated an early start time of 8.30am for the first race, but despite that there are 11 clubs who are looking forward to getting out on the water for some winter racing. The clubs attending are:
- Appledore
- Barnstaple
- Boscastle
- Bristol
- Bude
- Clevedon
- Ilfracombe
- Portishead
- Rock
- Torridge
Unfortunately, due to the forecast weather conditions Junior races have already been abandoned for safety reasons, but with the option of using a straight course with an upriver start line offering additional shelter, eight races are scheduled to go ahead. With some clubs looking to use the event for part of their selection processes and other clubs trying out their new crews for the first time, there should be some highly competitive racing.
Schedule for the day:
- 0700 – Boats (plastics) arrive (Churchfields Car Park, Appledore EX39 1RL)
- 0810 – Coxes Meeting
- 0830 – First Race
- Ladies B
- Mens B
- Ladies A
- Mens A
- Ladies Vets
- Mens Vets
- Ladies Supervets
- Mens Supervets
The organisers, Torridge Pilot Gig Club, have also advised all attendees to leave extra time for travelling due to road closures from the Heywood Roundabout off the A39.
