Langstone Pilot Gig Club are looking forward to holding their third CPGA U14/U16/U18 Junior Sprint Regatta this year. Hosted by the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Rowing Association at the Royal Navy Sailing Centre, HMS Excellent, Whale Island, Portsmouth on Sunday 23rd June 2019.

As well as the facilities at the RNSC, including plenty of free parking, HMS Bristol the RN Harbour Training Ship, will also be available to use as a viewing point, directly overlooking the finish line. The pontoons are just in front of HMS Bristol and can take all the gigs alongside at one time.
Entries will be sought for U14 and U16 crews with at least 2 races for each crew and a plate and main final in each class. U18 crews are also encouraged to enter, with longer race distances planned. It is estimated that 20 – 24 races can be run during the day. We also intend to run a safety demonstration over the lunch break covering man-overboard recovery techniques.
The Regatta offers the opportunity for a dedicated junior competition in a unique setting within the RN Headquarters and with the Naval Base as a backdrop. Entry to HMS Excellent requires nominal lists of participants/car registration numbers, which we will require at least 24 hours in advance prior to the event.
HMS Excellent has easy access directly off the M275 and the return trip is possible in a day for most clubs to the east of the river Exe. Scheduled after GCSEs have finished, but before the summer holidays, participation from all CPGA clubs is welcome, with a target of up to 12 x U14, 12 x U16 and 8 x U18 crews being our aspiration.
Over the past two years we have welcomed Junior gig rowers and their supporters from Swanage, Bridport, Portland, Rame, Bristol, Brixham, Tamar and Tavy and we hope to welcome more this year.
