4 ladies, 3,000 miles, 2019, 1 boat
Four local women are undertaking the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in 2019 raising money & awareness for Cornwall Blood Bikes, Carefreebreaks & Hospiscare Exmouth & Lympstone. This is a 3,000 mile epic row in a small, compact ocean rowing boat which will be their ‘home’ for possibly 3 months while they are at sea. The row will take them from La Gomera in December 2019 and finish in Antigua hopefully in March 2020.
It is known as the world’s toughest row and will the crew 3,000 miles across the Atlantic in December next year from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua.
They are currently fundraising for 3 local charities plus having a sponsor who will match fund that £ of £ up to £50k meaning they could raise potentially a whopping £100k. Currently the crew are having to self fund the race and all our preparations i.e. buying the boat, safety & navigation equipment, on board food, clothing, mandatory training courses, entry fee etc. It’s estimated to be £70k-£100k in all.
Currently three of Oursome Foursome are gig rowers; Bird Watts and Linda Whittaker from Mevagissey plus Mo O’Brien from Cape Cornwall. Our fourth rower Claire Allinson hasn’t had any rowing experience (yet!), but I’m sure we will see her in a gig hopefully soon.
