Sizzling Weather and Rowing at 2nd Annual Junior Gig Sprints

Whale Island, Portsmouth Navel Base

Jointly hosted by Langstone Pilot Gig Club, the Royal Navy and the Royal Marines Association, this year’s event attracted entries from Junior Cornish Pilot Gig Rowing crews from across the South and West of England.

Competition was fierce within each of the three age categories of U14s, U16s and U18s plus an U16s Plate Competition which gave each crew at least two races.

The Winning Crews were

U14s Swanage A
U16s Brixham
U18s Bridport
U16s Plate winners ..Langstone A
U16s All Girl Crew winners ..Bristol
Endeavour  Trophy Winners …This was awarded to a novice crew of U14s rowers from 3 clubs .

Each of the crews above were presented with trophies and medals by Rear Admiral Paul Bennett
RN  CB OBE (a keen fixed seat rower)

More than four hundred crew members and supporters gathered on the foredeck of HMS Bristol to view the days gig racing.

Thirst quenching water, refreshing drinks and boundless supplies of food were provided throughout the day by members of Langstone Pilot Gig Club, who supplied the race officials and timekeepers for the day.
