World Pilot Gigs Championships 2018
This year’s 29th World pilot gig Championships will take place on the 4th, 5th and 6th May 2018.
The organizing committee would like to invite you to take part in this event which has become the highlight of the Scillonian and Cornish calendar.
Last year’s increase in registrations has enabled us to continue funding this ever popular event but we are always on the look out for more sponsors from the island community and overseas to help maintain future events and a high level of safety for all competitors.
This year, as always, we risk assess all aspects of safety throughout the event.
We will be adopting the Rowsafe guidance procedure, which requires all coxswains to wear a lifejacket or a buoyancy aid, this follows the actions of the CPGA and the British Rowing Association who are incorporating the same rule for their events.
Coxswains not wearing lifejackets or buoyancy aids will be liable to disqualification.
Last year’s Vets and Super Vets split races were a resounding success, although a computer glitch caused some consternation when some crews were not entered in their appropriate races, hopefully that has all been ironed out.
Coxswains meeting on the Friday afternoon again will be in the Methodist Chapel.
We ask all Cox’s to attend to find out any new rules that have been implemented and to sign that you have read and understood all the rules.
Registration is now open. Click here
All registrations should be made via www.worldgigs.co.uk. After registration you will receive confirmation of your entry, any difficulty contact Kevin Sherris or David Senior.
We look forward to seeing you all in May.
Happy New Year
