Drone footage of gig rowing is taking off and is giving a fantastic new perspective on our sport.
The videos also help rowers to assess their technique (there’s no hiding if the timing is out!).
Here’s one from the recent regatta at Looe, taking by Steve Strachan.
Please send GigRower your drone videos of Gig Rowing in future.

Drones offer huge benefits for Technique analysis, and also to assess coxes’ steering. For major events, especially on buoy-turn courses, a drone stationed directly over each buoy would assist umpiring decisions. It would be great if they could be used for the NQY County Championships immediately, with live feedback for spectators on shore. This would also alleviate the necessity for spectator boats to wash-down ANY racing crews, either at NQY or at the World Champs – Huge benefits all round.
