Cornwall School Games Entries Wanted

Entries are open now for the sixth Cornwall School Games Gig Rowing competition which is due to run at Mylor Harbour on Wednesday the 29th June 2016.

The event is run in partnership between British Rowing, Cornwall Sports Partnership and volunteers from clubs  and schools.  Schools can enter teams of six, linking with their local club to provide a coxswain across 4  categories (under 14 & under 16 girls and open).

Teams compete in straight line races with  each team racing at least twice.  Clubs have found that this competition can provide a great platform to link with their local  school to develop their junior section. In 2015 21 teams (126 young people) entered the  competition.

The deadline for entries is the 6th May, and these must come from the schools so if your club  has 6 or more rowers who attend the same school – you could enter!  This event is fantastic for promoting junior gig rowing but relies on the good will of clubs and  volunteers providing coxswains and equipment. If your club can support this year by  providing a boat for the racing, or volunteers to help out on the day please do get in touch.
