Poole Gig Rowing Club held our fun day on 3rd October to thank local clubs in their support and help over the last year. This event was attended by the ‘Jurassic Coast’ gig clubs, which include Langstone, Swanage, Weymouth, Portland and Lyme Regis.
The event was not a regatta and did not involve racing, but consisted of a treasure hunt around Poole Harbour with a number of fun activities on route. This made a change for all the clubs involved and allowed mixed groups of rowers in the gigs at any time. We even mixed rowers from different clubs to help inter club relationships.
The day was also an opportunity for Poole to launch our new gig ‘RobbiePaye’ to compliment our other gig ‘ArryPaye’, both of which were famous pirates brothers in Poole. The names help to cement our relationship with the town and history of Poole.
A fun day was had by all clubs and we hope to do the same again next year at the end of the racing season.
