North Devon Junior Championships

The Torridge Gig Club hosted the North Devon Junior Championships.

The North Devon Journal said:

The home club’s rowers were joined by teams from Bude and Ilfracombe.

Bude led from the start in the under-14 race, rowed over a 1,000m course, followed strongly by Ilfracombe and Torridge.

It was a close finish but Bude managed to hold on to take the trophy as the wind picked up and the water became choppy.

Torridge were quickest away in the 1,500m under-16 race and held off Bude who chased them all the way. Ilfracombe, whose full crew had just rowed the under-14 course, performed well as they came in third.

The organisers thanked Michele White Fitness for sponsoring the winners’ T-shirts, Colin R Eastman and Will Miles for supplying the trophies and Sylvesters for warming the juniors up with a chip supper.
