On Saturday March 17th Clevedon Pilot Gig Club held a short ceremony to bless and rename their recently acquired second gig – ‘Blackbird’. The name was overwhelmingly selected from a shortlist and is taken from the unofficial national anthem of Somerset – ‘Blackbird, I’ll ‘ave ‘ee’ – a traditional folksong long before The Wurzels favourite!
Having been repainted in Club colours she was then re-launched, and in company with ‘Watch and Pray’ was rowed home to Clevedon from Bristol (about 14 n.miles) to a great welcome from Club members and supporters on the historic Pier, slipway and promenade. Both gigs will be at the World Championships as Clevedon take a much larger contingent to compete in its second year at Scilly.
