Long-time adventurer, Rob Coleman, is preparing for his most ambitious challenge yet, three solo feats in three years. Although he hasn’t found the time to take up the sport. Rob is closely connected to the gig rowing community.
“I am a father of 2 grown up children, my son Harry, 26, and my daughter Mia, 24, a former gig rower with Charlestown who now lives in New Zealand. I live in St Austell with my long term partner Kate, a former 2 time World Champion gig rower with Charlestown. I sadly am not a gig rower due to working overseas”.
Rob’s extraordinary sporting résumé includes trekking solo across the Arctic twice, completing 77 ultra-marathons, including the infamous Marathon des Sables, and taking on extreme endurance challenges worldwide.
Rob is now embarking on a three year mission to raise money and awareness for Prostate Cancer UK and Man Down UK with a series of ultra solo challenges:
1: CLIMB / FLY 15,766 feet to the summit of Montblanc, then paraglide down
2: ROW 3,500 miles solo and unsupported across the Atlantic Ocean from New York to Cornwall
3: ROW 6,800 miles solo and unsupported across the Pacific Ocean from San Francisco to Auckland
Rob’s current series of endurance challenges is designed not only to push his personal limits but also to inspire and engage others.
“It’s about opening people’s eyes to what is possible to ‘Dream Big’. And if what I’m doing inspires one person to step out of their comfort zone to try something new or just to get moving then it’s served its purpose. The gig community is an awesome and welcoming family and I absolutely want to share my adventure and story with you all”.
To support Rob’s North Atlantic row and raise funds for Prostate Cancer UK and Man Down UK, a special fundraising dinner will be held at the Eden Project on 24th April. The event will feature a three-course dinner, followed by an interview and Q&A with local hero and multiple Olympic champion Helen Glover MBE. Helen, a proud Cornishwoman and double Olympic gold medallist in the women’s pair at London 2012 and Rio 2016, will share insights from her remarkable career, including behind-the-scenes stories from the Olympic Games and reflections on resilience, motherhood, and inclusion in high-performance sport.
Set in The Gallery at Eden, guests will enjoy fine dining alongside inspiring sporting storytelling, auctions, raffles, and the chance to meet Rob and Helen in person.
Alongside his Atlantic row, he plans additional feats over the next three years, including a high-altitude Mont Blanc climb with paragliding descent and a Pacific Ocean solo row, all in aid of charity.
Tickets for the evening are available in Silver and Gold packages, with an optional Speaker Sponsor opportunity offering exclusive engagement with Helen Glover. The event promises a unique combination of adventure, Olympic insight, and charitable impact, celebrating the spirit of adventure and those who push the boundaries of what is possible.
