Langstone Cutters Pilot Gig Club, Hampshire
Established: 2013
Location: Hayling Island
Gigs: Heart of Hayling (1992), Spirit of Langstone (2001)
About: The first gig club in Hampshire was born out of the local Langstone Cutters Rowing Club, a long established fixed seat club with an excellent race pedigree that includes numerous wins and trophies in endurance events such as the Great River Race and the ultimate fixed seat rowing event, London to Paris. Langstone Cutters wanted to row and race Gigs and a new, independent club was decided to be the best way forward.
Langstone Cutters Gig Club was launched on 1 January 2013 with a great ceremony that included a visit from Neptune to bless the renaming of the two gigs acquired for the club.
In our first two years we have reached 120 members. On our second visit to the Scillies (2014) our Mens A won Group H. Our juniors section has grown from six rowers to 23 in less than a year and acquitted themselves well at Newquay in 2014.
