Gigrower’s from across the community are making their way this weekend to the Lee Valley velodrome to take part in the annual championships to test themselves against some of the best rowers in the country.
Within the iconic Olympic velodrome, thousands of competitors will be at BRIC, racing over 500m or 2,000m or taking part in the fast and furious 4,000m team relay. Over 160 Concept2 indoor rowing machines will be lined up and ready for action, with the motivating backdrop of bright lights, big beats, and a roaring crowd. BRIC 2018 is set to be an indoor rowing event like no other.
Last year, over 1,500 rowers took to the race floor, from first-time racers through to GB rowing stars and Olympic champions, BRIC is open to all ages and abilities, from school year 7 upwards.
Of these, one of the current Looe World Pilot Gig Champions winning crew, Matt Newman will be lining up next to the likes of Olympic gold medalist Moe Sbihi plus many other world class rowers in a true test of fitness.
We also have another representative from Looe in the lightweight category, Mike White plus a Salcombe veteran David Marsh in the 70-74 500m men’s race. From River Fowey Gig Cub we have rowers Archie, Freddy and Jon Rolls rowing in juniors and senior competetion also.
