‘Stream Team’ plan for 2019 Season

362 0

After our first year on the gig rowing circuit as the ‘Stream Team’, we all sat down for a end of season beer to discuss the 2019 season ahead and plans for the Stream Team.

A lot of trial and error was sought in our inaugural season, with many things learnt, improved upon and expanded to give you, the rowers, the best coverage of this amazing sport.  From the beginnings of a Trago Mills special set up, to finishing off at Newquay Championships with GPS trackers, 360° cameras and dual commentary, we have certainly come a long way.

Led by Toby Budd, overseeing and organising the team, Toby has introduced advanced coverage in our sport. Sky Visions’ Steve Strachan provided the technology, drones and 360° cameras, and was backed up by a number of dedicated gig rowing enthusiasts to bring this year’s coverage to life. Commentary was provided by Steve Lock (Appledore) with special guest commentators including Penny Chuter (Flushing and Mylor) and Ryan Watts (Mount’s Bay). We were never short of extra helpers on board the boats; Tom Larkin (Fowey), Nigel Beswetherick (wherever he lays his hat) plus many others. Finally the photographers during the season captured the highs and lows of the racing, Andy Harris (Weymouth), Charlotte Stevens (Pendeen) & Alice Richards (Looe).  Huge thanks to you all for really bringing another level which has seen the sport continue to grow, with even more clubs and the public wanting to get involved.

The coverage this year couldn’t have been possible without donations, the clubs, volunteer help and you – the viewers – to make all this happen. And a massive thank you goes to our main sponsor Tribute Ale (St Austell Brewery) for help funding this venture

So this brings us onto 2019.  To start off the season we will be attending 3 Rivers and then potentially we may be at a practice regatta before the World Champs 2019 where we will be focusing all our efforts to bring you the best experience at home.

As this year, we will need all the help we can get. To get the final edited videos to you online as quickly as possible requires time and skill so in particular we are looking for anyone with video editing experience to join the Stream Team next year. If you can help please email us on info@gigrower.co.uk

Lastly, thank you again for all your support in 2018 and here is to what we hope will be, a great 2019!
