On Saturday the 17th of November Harry Poulson of Poulson Boats, the youngest Cornish gig builder currently building, laid the last part of the keel of his first Cornish Pilot Gig. To mark this occasion, friends, family and members of Rame Gig Club, who commissioned the Gig, were invited to the workshop to witness and celebrate this moment.
Harry who is an accomplished rower, has competed at National and International levels and has had a passion for building traditional wooden boats and oars since graduating from the Boat Building Academy in Lyme Regis in 2015.
This will be Rame’s 4th Cornish Pilot Gig Build, after Spirit of Rame, Minnadhu & Penlee point – with the latter being built in 2004. After 14 years Rame decided to update their fleet which saw the Spirit of Rame being sold onto the a new starter club, Combwich based in Somerset.
With a thriving junior section which will hopefully see many stay on into the adult squads, the new boat will certainly provide Rame Gig Club the tools to thrive in this fast growing, highly competitive sport where club’s are stepping up the level year on year.
We wish you all the best with the build at GigRower.co.uk and please keep us updated with the progress pictures!
