The weekend of 3rd & 4th November saw the 27th instalment of the widely acclaimed Muiden Pampus Muiden – or MPM as it’s commonly known. The race takes part over a course of roughly 40 minutes, 3 times over to give you your total time for the win.
Many crews from the South West crossed the North Sea to Holland to take part in this annual event to take on the Dutch in their fleet of Cornish Gigs.
But it was a Barbarian Men’s crew that came away victorious taking the honours for the weekend, with a valliant effort from a Caradon Ladies’ Crew that took Silver in the ladies’ standings.
The Barbarian crew consisted of rowers from Bristol, Caradon, Looe, Mevagissey and Lyme Regis which came together to record a total winning time of 1 hour 56 minutes, followed closely by a Caradon Men’s Crew posting a time of 1 hour 57 minutes. Other crews from Penryn and Mevagissey also had brilliant results showing good force from the South West crews.
In the Ladies’ race, Caradon Ladies’ took second missing out on first by four minutes, followed closely by another Cornish crew, Mevagissey. Another great effort to see two South West crews standing on the podium.
A great event (in which many will vouch for the party after being more enjoyable!) which will return again on the 2nd & 3rd November next year for its 28th edition.
