A Tamar Winter League has been established, and its inaugural event will be organised and hosted by Tamar and Tavy Gig Club on the 1st December.
The clubs that have signed up to the league are:

Nigel Cooper of Cotehele Quay Gig Club said, “There will be five regattas over the 2018/2019 winter, with points awarded as per the normal local league system, so that an overall season winner can be identified based on performance and attendance. Each regatta will have identical race categories and all crews will race in plastic gigs. Clubs that have plenty of plastic gigs have agreed to lend gigs and the gigs will be allocated to crews by names drawn out of a hat. This will apply to all crews, even the clubs who have their own plastic gigs.
“Obviously, this will be the first year and we will see how it goes. After the season is over we will look at the lessons learnt to see how we want to go in the 2019/2020 winter; additional clubs, sponsorship, etc. All the clubs who have signed up have agreed that it will be a good test of preparedness for the Scillies across the winter period.”
Winter leagues are starting to become more popular, after the success of leagues such as the North Coast Gig League series, which saw the benefit of winter racing in their results at the World Championships and Summer Regattas with many clubs improving on previous years.
We wish the new Tamar League all the success from all at GigRower
