Sidmouth provided gig rowers with the warmest day of the year and some scintillating races at their regatta on Sunday 15th July watched by hundreds of supporters and holidaymakers gathered on the esplanade.

Ideal rowing conditions greeted the eight Jurassic league clubs participating. The overall winners on the day were Bridport gig club who retained their number one spot in the League in winning seven of the eight race categories with Portland winning the Men’s B category.

As the league nears its conclusion a number of categories are still to be contested.

Under 16s – only 4 points between the top four clubs.

Ladies A – only 9 points separate the leading 4 clubs.

Men’s B – only 3 points separate the top three crews.

Ladies Vets – both Weymouth and Bridport level on points at the top of this category.

Men’s Vets – only 3 points separate Bridport from Swanage.

Men’s A – Bridport lead Langstone by 6 points

Mixed – Bridport ahead of Langstone by 5 points.

So, everything still to play for as the Jurassic League heads for Lyme Regis on Saturday 11th August.

At the conclusion of the League Regattas, trophies and medals will be presented to each of the leagues 8 category winners, plus Trophies and medals to the Three Top Clubs within the Jurassic League by its sponsors AEP Ltd.

Sidmouth are to be congratulated upon their splendid organisation in hosting this regatta and for entering 2 U16’s Junior crews, a first for Sidmouth, having launched a junior section.
