Jurassic League all set for the 2018 Season

Following a well-attended meeting held recently in Dorchester. it was agreed that the Jurassic Regional Gig Rowing League had been a success and that it should be continued for the 2018 Summer Regatta season.

At the request of the club’s present, three additional categories will be added to next year’s league Regattas namely Ladies Vets, Men’s Vets and Mixed. These will be added to that of the existing format comprising of Junior under 16s, Ladies A, Men’s A, Ladies B and Men’s B.

Exmouth Gig Club announced that they will host their first club and Jurassic League regatta in 2018, bringing the number of Jurassic League Regattas venues for next season up to seven.

The provisional dates established for the 2018 season are as follows:

26th May Weymouth Gig Club

2nd June Swanage Gig Club

9th June Exmouth Gig Club

16th June Langstone Gig Club

7th July Bridport Gig Club

15th July Sidmouth Gig Club

11th August Lyme Regis Gig Club

The league’s sponsors, AEP Ltd, confirmed that they will once again continue with their support of the Regional Jurassic League and to providing trophies to the three top placed league clubs and also trophies and medals to each of the eight-listed individual category winning crews.

This year’s 9 competing Jurassic Regional League Gig Clubs are as follows; Bridport, Exmouth, Langstone, Lyme Regis, Poole, Portland, Sidmouth, Swanage and Weymouth.

The format for the Jurassic League is available free to any CPGA club that would like to form a regional rowing league, it is easy to operate and does not interfere with hosting traditional regattas and inviting non-league clubs, it simply sits alongside.
