In November last year a proposal was put forward encouraging Cornish Pilot Gig clubs from the ‘Jurassic Coast’ region of England, to establish a league table based on 5 racing categories. The proposal was adopted by all of the region’s nine clubs and the first gig club league was established in May of this year with a regatta at Weymouth.

The Jurassic Coast Gig Rowing League comprises of nine clubs stretching from Hayling Island in the East to Exmouth in the West, including Sidmouth, Lyme Regis, Weymouth, Swanage , Bridport, Exmouth, Portland , Poole and Langstone. In total this represents a combined membership of over 1000 rowers.

The clubs host six regional regattas of which two remain for this season, Lyme Regis on Saturday August 12th and the final league fixture at Sidmouth on Sunday 20th August.

All clubs involved have taken the league seriously and it has received positive publicity in the press.

AEP Ltd have just announced their association and sponsorship of the League going forward. AEP are the leading compressed air specialist based in Honiton and Ringwood and have been in business for over 40 years. AEP are providing the league with trophies for the 9 category winners this season and to give continued onward support within the region.

Results from the league regattas to date can be found here:
