Langstone Cutters Gig Club (East of Portsmouth) has arranged a British Rowing Fixed Seat Session Coach Course on 25th and 26th February (Saturday and Sunday) and the assessment date is Saturday 11th March (Saturday) to be held at the Hayling Island RNLI Lifeboat Station.
Natalie Gillespie, from Langstone, says “Unfortunately we have not been able to fill all the spaces, and thought we would inform clubs close to this location on the off chance that some of your members may be interested and help us meet the minimum requirement of 10 max 12 participants for the course to run. For some, it is not as far as travelling to Cornwall where most of these types of courses are held. Some of our members are able to offer accommodation for free too (on a first come first served basis). There are also many other accommodation options too.”
Deadline for entries is January 27th.
For those who have aspirations to do a L2 Coach Course this course contributes to that qualification.
Session Coach is accredited by 1st4Sport qualifications and concentrates on helping you develop rowers through skills based sessions, and replaces the ‘Learn to Row Instructor’. As part of the national qualification framework the UKCC qualification provides learners with an opportunity to take their first step onto a formal qualification pathway. The course aims to train and support our coaches to the best possible standard whilst developing their coaching skills and providing them with a range of tools that they can take back to their clubs.
What will I get out of it?
As a Session Coach Award holder you will be able to plan deliver and review stand-alone rowing sessions and you will be qualified to work independently, but you may form part of a larger coaching team delivering a session as part of a programme written by someone else.
Who can attend?
Anyone over 18 years of age wanting to develop their coaching skills.
In addition to this you must be:
•A British Rowing registered member. Non-members can apply online for instant registration (England and Wales); Sliver membership is what you are after:
£210 for 18 hours of face-to-face tutoring and an internal assessment which takes place at a later date.
Where can I find funding?
Here is a list of organisations that could help you with funding towards your coaching qualification.
County Sports Partnerships Coaching Network
NB: this funding is retrospective so you have to pay up front yourself and then apply with your certificate. Natalie can help advise anyone with this.
