The Museum Boat Collection Manager, Andy Wyke, says “After the race all gigs will moor alongside the Museum pontoon, with trophy presentations and beer and pasties for the crews in the Museum. Please fill in the application form for each gig and return to Cath Horton (email address below) by 6th October. If you have any trophies from previous events could you please return trophies to the NMMC by Monday 12th October.
The Help for Heroes gig crew, some of whom you met in the 2015 World Championships, will be taking part in the race, in support of a museum-led project to build a new pilot gig for the use of wounded injured and sick (WIS) armed forces personnel. You’ll be able to see the boat being built in the museum workshop, and have a talk with the builder Andrew Nancarrow.
The second part of the project will be the “Epic Row” of the new boat, by WIS crews, from Falmouth to St. Marys next year in time for the World Championships. We’re hoping to involve a number of gig clubs and we’ll tell you more about that on the 24th.
We look forward to seeing you.”
