Held at Stithians Lake, May 17th
Report and photos from Sean Boyle
We had over 40 rowers taking part in the 2nd Veterans Skiff rowing Championships. In all, there were five rowing categories; Mixed Oar match, Women’s Pair of Paddles, Men’s Pair of Paddles, Women’s Cornish Randan and Men’s Cornish Randan. In all, 28 races took place in these categories, of which several were repechages – second chance saloon. Many of the rowers had more than 9 races on the day. Many tired bodies at the end of the day! We had veterans taking part, who have been County champions and, in Gigs, world champions over the years in young and not so young categories. We had Rowing royalty including David Henn, rowing hard in his late 60’s, who was part of the winning Men’s Cornish Randan crew and also Roy Crapp, still competing at the grand old age of 73! They showed that technique is still vitally important.
It was a highly competitive, yet friendly day. Where stories were shared – again and friendships renewed.
