Can you row a boat? Will you be 40 or over on the 17th May?
If the answers are yes then the Cornwall Rowing Association would like to invite you to the first’s Veterans Skiff Championship Regatta which will take place at Stithians Lake on Sunday 18th May.
Only entry criteria is you are 40 or over on the 17th May, no need to be a member of a CRA Club, or in fact any rowing Club at all, the race is open to anyone over 40 on the 17th May who can row.
No need to worry about having a 15ft Cornish skiff as the CRA will provide all the boats and rowing kit. All you need to do is turn up with your crew for a full day of racing (if you prefer you can bring your own rowing kit to use on the day).
You can enter a crew in as many of the following race categories as you wish
- Womens pair of paddles one woman rowing with two paddles
- Mens pair of paddles one man rowing with two paddles
- Womens randan three women, two rowing with one paddle each and the third in the middle with two paddles
- Mens randan three men, two rowing with one paddle each and the third in the middle with two paddles
- Mixed oar match a man and a woman each rowing with one paddle
Each of the race categories will be run as heats of up to 6 boats, progressing to a final, with each entrant guaranteed at least two races in each category.
The course for each race will be a straight row out, turning one fixed mark, and returning to the finish line. To stop collisions and any potential damage to boats, each skiff will run its own course with its own turning mark.
We will be starting the day’s racing with a race briefing at 9.15 and the first heats away at 10am, so we ask that you are at Stithians by 9am.
To allow us to organise the heats, you will need to send back your completed entry form to Sean Boyle by 6pm Wednesday 13th May 2015. Please email entries to firstname.lastname@example.org . You will receive an entry confirmation by email by the 15th May detailing timings and format for the day.
We are asking for £5 per rower to enter the Veteran Skiff Championship Regatta, and this is a one off payment regardless of how many races you enter. Your entry money covers the associated costs of hosting the event at Stithians which is a private lake. The facilities at Stithians are great, with free parking a café and use of showers.
Please bring your entrance money on the day (cheques made payable to Cornwall Rowing Association). Lastly the racing will be run under Cornwall Rowing Association Rules.
We look forward to seeing you on the day!
