The USA crews, from Gloucester, Massachusetts, have confirmed that they will be attending the World Pilot Gig Championships on Scilly.
They are hugely grateful for the help and support Gig Rowers and supporters in the UK have given them, whilst searching for accommodation, loan of gigs, rowers for the Vets races and travel arrangements required for their crew member who needed to get back urgently to work on the Monday.
Michael Leviseur, part of their Men’s Crew told GigRower:
The Gig community at large is quite extraordinary in the way it has helped a bunch of total strangers. An appeal for a cox and a rower to fill in for the vets race yielded enough volunteers to make up a further 3 complete crews. It makes me smile a lot this whole experience. What a great advert for human nature and the kindness of people. It has been very uplifting from both sides of the pond.Sue Handford from Port Isaac has been a real help getting Ed off the island calling in a big favour from the RM and general advice.Keri of Radio Scilly has also been a complete star with appeals for accommodation and moral support.Sue from Isles of Scilly Travel was endlessly patient whilst we got our acts together.I have to throw in a huge, huge thank you to my crew mate Bonnie for her hard work and being the recipient of excited phone calls from 6am onwards day after day from me. She has been very tolerant and has done so much behind the scenes but is so vital with these adventures. She has been a star.
