Sharp’s reveals national Gig Rowing competition with Cornish rowers at its centre

Cornish brewer challenges rowers to win rowing adventure of a lifetime

Cornwall based Sharp’s Brewery, makers of the UK’s number one cask ale Doom Bar, has launched an exciting competition that will challenge rowers across the country to win the rowing adventure trip of a lifetime.

But it’s not just for those who may never have rowed a gig before.  Gig Rowers are also encouraged to enter. This is your chance to train with those aiming to cross the Atlantic, and to spend time with them, on and off the water in Rock.

The competition will see three lucky pairs of friends join well renowned Cornish Gig Rowers, Neil Blakeby and Hamish Stewart, as they train to cross the Atlantic in under 60 days.

Each pair of winners will receive an all-expenses paid, two day trip to visit the brewery’s home in Rock. The prize also includes a race over the infamous Doom Bar off the North Coast with Neil and Hamish, the sand bank which was the inspiration behind the brewer’s best known beer, as well as an exclusive food and beer pairing session at the Mariners public house in Rock, run by Sharp’s and Michelin Star chef Nathan Outlaw.

Cornish rower Neil Blakeby said:

“There’s An Adventure Brewing is all about getting people to follow their passion and live with a little more adventure, which we strongly believe in. The transatlantic row is something that is close to our hearts, and we’re glad to have Sharp’s support as we embark on this adventure.”

His close rowing partner, Hamish Stewart continued:

“Being from Cornwall, gig-rowing has always been an important part of our lives. We’re excited to meet some other rowers from across the country that share our passion.”

Additional prizes will also be given to clubs and rowing enthusiasts who post a photo of their team along with details of their next challenge to Twitter, with the hashtag #SharpsGigRowing.
