For Sale – 18ft Flashboat No.38 The “Jim Stacey” – £1,200
Calstock Rowing Club is selling one of it’s fleet of flashboats. The Jim Stacey (named after one of the clubs stalwart members who ran the club for 40 years until his death) has been dry stored for the last 4 years and is still an excellent racing boat. We are selling her as we have 3 newer boats, she was our back up 3rd race boat until we received our new boat the Jim Stacey II, built by Andrew Avent of Gunnislake at a cost of £4,850, earlier this autumn and we have no need to hang on to her anymore. She was built in 1998 by Robert Hilder of Penryn and comes with footrests and rudder. Flashboats can either be rowed 4 oar or oar match, coxed or coxless. They are easily moved / launched by as few as 2 people and whilst some say they are hard to sit/master…once you’ve got these nailed rowing a gig will seem like rowing an armchair. These boats are also much lighter than a gig and therefore excellent for junior rowers to learn in. This boat won many under 14, 16 and 18 championships during her time with the club and I hope that the new incarnation will serve the club as well as she has.
We have a selection of ‘older’ flashboat oars that we would be willing to sell with this boat, prices depend on the age and condition of the oars.
