13 clubs turned up for Mevagissey’s event at Portmellon, their first event there since 2004. Whilst most clubs were doubtful on there way to Portmellon that the event would be on (due to the fog and mist that shrouded Cornwall and Devon), Mevagissey as usual had made the right call. Despite early morning rain, the sun came out and a great days racing ensued with all the rowers enjoying the 14 minute course which had two tight turns at marks 2 & 3.
In a day that saw rowers swapping in with other clubs and clubs prepared to lend their boats to any made up crews, the overall winners were Mounts Bay. A bottle of Champagne was presented to Dartmouth for travelling the furthest distance.
The whole event was a relaxed and friendly affair and the eight races were complete in three and a half hours which left plenty of time to consume the three barrels of beer from Skinners, Sharpes and the Dartmoor Brewery and priced at £1.50 per pint by the Rising Sun Inn!
A special thanks to those umpires who volunteered their services to help out and of course without them, it would have made life difficult for the host club!
