When was the club started?: 1986 along with the formation on the CPGA, Cadgwith Gig Club, Roseland Gig Club & Truro Gig Club.
How has the club progressed since then?: From Last to First. In the early days you could bet on Mount’s Bay finishing last in a race, but in the modern times and new boats, Mount’s Bay Gig Club has won the World, County & Tribute Championships. We currently have 3 wooden racing gigs, 3 plastic training gigs & 2 flashboats.
Any other (gig-rowing!) notable achievements?:
- Second Gig Club to own a plastic gig.
- Men County champions in 2008.
Any annual events you organise?:
- Regatta – held in the breath taking location of Marazion under the iconic St Michael’s Mount.
- Club Dinner (Awards Ceremony and meal).
Do you have a juniors section?: Yes, we were the first gig club to establish a link between gig club and school. Linked with Mount’s Bay School, we have been taking out School Children and distributing gig rowing to the youth community.
How do you select your racing crews?: We have a rowing committee structured with a director of rowing, ladies & men’s reps and ladies & men’s vice reps.
What month do you select your teams for Scilly?: Beginning of the new year Jan/Feb.

Anything else you think we should know about your club?!:
We hold the record for the biggest start boat at our event in June 2010. (I think!) We had an ex trawler turned dive vessel. It visits the bay from time to time in the summer months.
Whats ahead in 2012?: We are hoping to complete a row from Mont Mon Michelle in France to St Michaels Mount in Marazion in June/July.
