After months of training for the World Championships, it’s finally time to start tapering and to enjoy the next few days of rest before the big weekend ahead.
Tapering is the practice of reducing, or tapering off, exercise in the days just before an important sports competition. Sounds very appropriate to us all in the last week of April! It seems a bit unnatural because we’re now used to doing so much exercise. I don’t know about you but going to bed early from rowing-related exhaustion has started to feel like the norm. Putting a brake on that level of exercise now makes me scared that my fitness levels will slip away and all I’ll do is sit around and eat rubbish food instead. She says … reaching for another Mars Bar.
But apparently it’s all ok (well, probably not the eating rubbish bit) and apart from some light exercise, we don’t need to feel bad about putting our feet up and relaxing for the next few days. Hooray!
So have fun letting your bodies fully repair themselves in time for the Championships. But no, that doesn’t mean going down the pub to do it 😉
