[Ed – that bodes very well for ladies Scheveningen crew at World Championships 2010. And, Helen Nance writes : “The ladies crew from Truro who were second behind the Scheveningen crew also won the tropy for best ladies crew, with an average of age of 45. Gill and I from the Rame gig club rowed with the Penryn ladies in Morlader and we finished 17 seconds behind Truro. With a similar average age we got two Cornish teams in the top three.”]
The mens race was a close race between Gig Club Scheveningen and Gig Club Muiden. Muiden had long been deemed to be the faster crew of the two but things didn’t quite work out that way. Scheveningen won two of the three races. Thier overall time was 02:00:10.62 against 02:01:20,21 for Muiden. In the short history of gig rowing in the Netherlands, it’s the first time Scheveningen took the double at the MPM race.
