HEAD OF THE RIVER RACE – Saturday 17th October 2009
The race is a handicapped event dependent upon the individual rower ability. The pursuit race commences from the mouth of the river, launching boats at Helford Passage beach, in front of the Ferryboat Inn and finishes at Gweek. This year we would also like to invite skiffs and flashboats to take part.
Boats need to arrive at the top of the hill at Helford Passage by 1.30pm where they will be towed down by a HRGC member. The coxes meeting will be held on the beach at 3.30p.m and gigs will leave the beach immediately after for the start of the race at 4.30p.m.
For those who have not taken part in this event before, the trailers (once gigs have been launched) will need to be taken to either Gweek boatyard or our clubhouse in Gweek, to recover the gigs at the end of the race, so please allow at least ¾ of an hour to return to Helford Passage for the start of the race.
Following the race, trailers and cars can be taken from Gweek boatyard to our clubhouse where there will be a prize giving, raffle, barrelled beer, wine, BBQ, chilli supper and lots of other refreshments. There is camping available on site for those who would like to make an evening of it and stay late!
For those able to join in the race, it would obviously be helpful to know as early as possible in order to cater adequately. There is a limit to how many gigs we can accommodate so we will work on a first come first serve basis. It would also be useful if you could let us know if you are unable to make it.
Please could you fill in the attached handicap form so we can work out your start time prior to the day, specifying how many mens A, other men, ladies A and other ladies/juniors, and return it to me at the above address no later than 1st October 2009.
We look forward to receiving your entry form!
